Eastbourne I.M.P.S. started in September 2002. We cover 61 schools and train approximately 2265 children every year.

I.M.P.S. programme

The I.M.P.S. programme provides training for children aged 10 and 11 years (year 6) in basic life support, accident prevention and first aid.

Schools are provided with curriculum linked resource materials to use throughout the school year to promote safety awareness.

A team of I.M.P.S. trainers then spend a morning at school teaching resuscitation skills using individual dummies, showing an interactive DVD to teach first aid and appropriate response in an emergency situation and allowing children a 'hospital' experience on a specially equipped mobile unit.

The cost of the morning is £2.50 per child and a small charge of £10 is made for the resource materials.

Funding and donations

I.M.P.S in Eastbourne is self funding and needs to raise £25,000 each year.

The initial money received to start the programme has now been used. Sufficient funding remains for the next academic year, but it is now vital to secure finances if I.M.P.S. is to continue in the future.

All donations are gratefully accepted and can be made by making cheques payable to I.M.P.S. and sending to:

I.M.P.S. heroes

Mum, Liz Miller, attended I.M.P.S. as a parent helper. Her training came in useful when her son, Daniel, was choking on a boiled sweet. Using techniques learnt at I.M.P.S, Liz managed to dislodge the sweet and save Daniel's life. Read news story

Well done, Liz!
