Sandwell I.M.P.S.
Sandwell I.M.P.S. opened in 2000. We have 54 schools enrolled and reach 2400 children per year.
Sessions take place at both Sandwell General Hospital and in school using our ‘IMPulance’.
I.M.P.S. programme
The programme is funded by Sandwell Primary Care Trust and so free to Sandwell schools although schools will need to fund transportation to and from Sandwell hospital. Schools in neighbouring boroughs can access the service, but will need to fund both their visit and travel. Contact us for further details, including prices.
Other programmes
We deliver several other programmes to complement core I.M.P.S.
Community I.M.P.S.
A community IMPS programme has been developed, aimed at parents of young children. This is delivered through local children’s centres. The aim of Community I.M.P.S. is to contribute to reducing inappropriate hospital attendances by parents of young children, by reducing injury rates amongst those groups.
The session lasts two hours and covers the following topics:
- The range of healthcare services – alternatives to A&E.
- Injury reduction – how to prevent and treat minor injuries at home.
- How to treat an unconscious child.
Participants also receive their own ‘Family First Aid’ book that covers a wide variety of common childhood conditions plus some basic skills such as how to check a temperature and test a rash. It also gives some basic advice on injury prevention in the home.
A certificate is awarded upon completion of the course.
This programme is funded by Sandwell Primary Care Trust and is free to local Children’s Centres. Other groups are welcome to access the programme, but a charge will be made.
Emergency and urgent care lesson
This is a one-hour, stand-alone lesson that is delivered to groups of 11 – 14 year olds. It is a resource developed by the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement to educate young people about the variety of emergency health services available to them.
E.L.F.S.
For 3-5 year olds and their parents.
The Impulance can also be booked to visit your early years group or community event. Contact us for further details including prices.
