On the 25th May 2011 Bradford I.M.P.S received a letter from a teacher at Addingham Primary School in Ilkley, West Yorkshire.
‘I thought you would be delighted to know that one of our former pupils, Peter Roberts, put what he learnt with I.M.P.S and Heartstart to very good use and saved his mother’s life earlier this year.’
Peter’s disabled mother had been enjoying a teacake when Peter suddenly spotted she was in severe distress. She was unable to shout and was clutching her throat. Peter knew what to do and leaned her forwards, giving her a series of back blows. After several blows the currant that was blocking her airway was dislodged, and Penny took a gasp of breath.
